Two runners on a cobblestone street
[ Who we are ]

We started this from the back of the pack

DEADLAST is a community-led running brand for the underdog. It started with us each wanting to change something in our own lives — running was just the medium we picked. The name carries both halves of that: dead last is the voice in your head telling you not to start, and it's what everyone else assumes about you before you've done a thing. Either way, the answer is to start anyway. You start dead last. You won't finish there. We support this mission by making technical apparel for the underdogs this sport tends to overlook, we celebrate the first mile the way other brands celebrate the fastest one, and if you run your first mile in somebody else's gear, we still did our job.

Three guys who
started from zero

Mitchell Thayne

Mitchell Thayne

Creative Director

I started DEADLAST for the version of me, from a few years back, who wanted to change something. Running is what finally did it: my health first, then most everything else. I spend my days focusing on the brand as a creative director and film producer. The rest of the time I'm married to my amazing wife and raising two kids. I'm still solidly middle of the pack on any run, which sits fine for a creative guy who's built a career around starting before he's ready.

Product Designer

I'm the product designer behind everything we make. I've always taken care of my health, running just wasn't the way I did it. Lacing up meant being a beginner all over again: fit, and still bad at it. That's a useful thing to know if you're designing for people starting from zero. I'm in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with my wife and two boys. If a piece doesn't work for somebody on their first mile, it doesn't leave my desk.

Operations

I handle the parts nobody sees: the 3PL, the inventory, the money, the reason your order actually shows up. I aspire to look like a guy who takes care of himself, but won't ever turn down a cookie. For most of my life I was also the guy who doesn't run, but I decided to change that. Ran my first half marathon recently and am improving my health every day. Wife and four kids.
